Support beyond housing
Housing alone, unfortunately, does not solve homelessness. Most of our clients have experienced profound trauma and adversity, leading to complex emotional, physical, and mental health challenges. To meet their needs and improve their life choices, FCA provides holistic, wraparound care that goes beyond crisis intervention, with the help of 1-1 caseworkers that support clients to develop the practical and emotional skills needed to move from survival to stability.
Freedom to Move is the latest addition to the wrap-around support we provide. We have been fortunate to secure funding from Sport England, to help design and facilitate a bespoke activity programme for our clients in temporary and supported housing.
In an effort to combat the empty day and boredom that many clients experience, Freedom to Move provides a range of engaging activities - that would often be inaccessible to our client group. From Badminton and table tennis to nature walks, chess and gardening, there’s hopefully something for everyone.
We have a Health & Lifestyle Coordinator who manages the on-site gym and the new programme of activities. Working with partner agencies has broadened the scope of activities on offer to the Freedom residents.
We are beyond grateful for the engagement and understanding of the National Trust, who have helped organise regular walks at Arlington Court. We have a core group of clients, who are experiencing the beautiful scenery Devon has to offer. They’ve also had the opportunity to get involved with a range of activities provided by the team.
