Accommodation

Freedom offers a range of accommodation solutions that helps people transition from rough sleeping to independent living. This journey is rarely linear and in our opinion one size does not fit all. We have introduced a range of accommodation solutions to meet people at their point of need, and all options come with a key worker offering person centred support.

Journeying Towards Independence

We believe everyone has a right to a safe, stable and secure environment to call home. Freedom is not a Registered Social Landlord and doesn’t provide a long term permanent housing solution, however, we do provide a range of short term accommodation solutions with support to help people reach their goals. We will do whatever we can to ensure that an individual’s

experience of rough sleeping is brief and temporary. The support we offer is tailored to the needs of each person. The goal is that each person moves on into their own accommodation that they can call home. Our job is the provide the support needed to help them get there!

We’ve been working in North Devon since 2008 and each year we help hundreds of people with our accommodation solutions.

The accommodation solutions include:

  • 4 rough sleeper pods Inside the Freedom Centre

  • 4 rough sleeper pods in town.

  • All pods are delivered in partnership with North Devon Council

  • 43 beds across 11 properties in Barnstaple. These include

  • Temporary Accommodation

  • Supported Accommodation

  • Female Only Accommodation

  • Next Steps Accommodation

  • Recovery Accommodation

PODS

Sometimes, the first accommodation solution is an emergency placement in either an inside or outside rough sleeper pod. Accommodation is provided on a night by night basis.

For many, this is the first time in a long time, that they have had the opportunity to sleep somewhere, safe, warm, private and away from the streets. A pod provides the unique chance to help someone readjust to a new experience before moving into a more traditional accommodation.

Temporary Accommodation & Supported Living

Temporary:

Our Temporary Accommodation is delivered on behalf on North Devon Council and it is as it says, temporary, night by night accommodation.

This might be because someone needs a short-term accommodation solution while looking for a more permanent solution in the private rented sector. It might be while they are waiting for a space to become available in supported accommodation. Or it might be as a move on from emergency accommodation in a pod and temporary accommodation is the appropriate solution.

Supported:

For those with clearly identified ongoing support needs we provide supported accommodation. This is suitable for those who are not ready to live independently and will need help to achieve that goal. The support is again very person centred and each resident will have a support plan that is co-produced with their support worker.

Recovery House

Recovery Housing is for those who need the security of a drug / alcohol free living environment to protect their recovery. We provide safe, supported accommodation for those who have started the journey of recovery from addiction and would like to join a community of like minded residents. Recovery housing residents have a dedicated recovery support worker, who holds regular meetings (both as a house and as 1-1) and supports them in their road to recovery.
