Latest What’s On This Year At Freedom? This year at Freedom, we’re making changes. We’ll be offering new services to our beneficiaries and we’re planning on raising more awareness about what we do in North Devon. As part of this, we’re planning to hold one or two events in and around Barnstaple – and that’s where you come in. Below are some descriptions of the events we’d like to hold. We want you to vote on which you’d like to see happen and be a part of. Each of these events is designed to build Freedom’s community, raise awareness of our work and most of all, have a little fun in 2019! Walk a Mile in Someone Else’s Shoes Would you walk a mile for Freedom? This event would be a planned one-mile walk in the early summer around Barnstaple and ending at the Freedom Centre. Participants would be asked to pay a small entrance fee and find sponsors for the walk. This walk has a twist though – it has to be done in someone else’s shoes. These can be decorated in a fun style, or maybe you’d like to hire some clown shoes from a fancy dress store – it’s up to you! We’ll be giving away prizes for the most money raised, the brightest or most inventive shoes and the first to finish! As the walk ends at the Freedom Centre, participants and their supporters will be welcomed into the Day Centre so you’ll be able to see the facilities we offer beneficiaries, enjoy the stalls and some tea or coffee and cake from our kitchen. If this sounds like something you’d like to support, let us know here. Breaking Out of Your Box Let’s celebrate the end of summer together with a sleep-out! This event would be a night away, sleeping in your own cardboard construction, pop-up tent or under the stars in a good quality sleeping bag or swag. There will be music, a BBQ, stalls and other fun things to keep everyone happy and able to socialise together. There will be an entrance fee for this mini-festival, and attendees can also find sponsors for their sleep-out. As the weather may not co-operate on the chosen weekend, the venue will have an under-cover area for people to sleep if the skies choose to rain on our parade. If you’d like to celebrate the end of summer at Freedom’s mini-festival, vote for this option here. Get Off the Treadmill! Similar to our Walk a Mile in Someone Else’s Shoes, this event would require participants to walk a mile for Freedom, but in late spring at Barnstaple’s town centre on a treadmill! Be as creative as you like – wear different shoes, dress up, or get together a team and walk a mile together (teams of four maximum). A small entrance fee would be charged to each participant and you would be encouraged to find sponsors for your walk. We’ll have a small refreshments stall, be recording the event for our social media and local news, and have Freedom staff on hand to encourage you through your mile on the treadmill as well as answer any questions about our work with vulnerable people in North Devon. There will be prizes for the most outrageous outfit, inventive shoes, and fastest treadmill time. If you’d like to come down and get to know the Freedom team at this relaxed and friendly event, vote for it in our very short poll. We’d love to make this year outstanding by bringing together our supporters, building our very special community, and celebrating the great work we do together with you! Please let us know what you’d like us to do.
