A big thank you to everyone who voted for the events they’d most like to see and participate in this year to support our work! We had a great response and are currently working out the details for the bigger events we asked you for your opinion about – Walk a Mile in Someone Else’s Shoes and Breaking Out of Your Box events both had a lot of support, as did the smaller event ‘Get Off the Treadmill’ which we have decided to re-name as ‘Take to the Treadmill’.

Due to the resources we have available, and of course, your responses, we’ve decided to start the year with a small event. We’re already working on bringing Take to the Treadmill to Barnstaple’s town centre this April. Read on to learn how you can get involved in this fun day and help us to raise awareness about our work and funds to keep our services vibrant and able to respond to the need we see in our local community of North Devon.

Take to the Treadmill and Walk a Mile for Freedom!

Take to the Treadmill is a warm-up for what people can expect from us over the coming year. We’ve booked the pedestrian area outside of Banbury’s in Barnstaple’s High Street for Saturday, 27th of April to hold this small event. We’re asking for individuals, or teams of up to four people to join us and walk a mile on a treadmill for Freedom. There is a small entrance fee of £5.00 each for a participant and we’re asking everyone to commit to raising a minimum of £50 through sponsorship for their walk. Let your school know, get them involved and enter a team to walk together, or ask your local sports team to enter a team to help promote their sport and our work!

We’re setting up a page on our website so people who are interested can easily get in touch to reserve their time slot for the day and also download everything they need – from sponsorship forms to confirmation of your expression of interest in participating.

Be In It To Win it

The event is open to everyone between the ages of five and 105! We’ll be giving away prizes too – dress up as a team, complete a mile walk in the fastest time or wear some creative shoes for your walk and you’ll be awarded with a certificate of participation and maybe a small prize for the achievement.

The North Devon Gazette will be covering the event on the day and we’ll be placing a message in the ‘What’s On’ section of the local news so as many people as possible can learn about the event and our work. We’ll be posting about this on our Facebook and Instagram pages too, so please help us spread the word by sharing our posts with your friends and family too.

Get Involved

Along with participants for the treadmill walk, we’re looking for volunteers on the day.

We’ll need help with the collection tins, collecting donations of items we always need for our work and people’s details for volunteering with the Day Centre or signing up to give regular donations.

We’re really excited about holding our very first public fundraising event in the centre of Barnstaple and hope to see you there sometime between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, 27th of April! Watch this space, our website and Facebook page for further details about Take to the Treadmill.
