What is this?

Many services these days are online and any person wanting to use these services is expected to have a computer and to know how to access these services online. At the Day Centre, we provide computers for people to use and a skilled support volunteer. This role will be providing direct support to individuals by teaching/helping them to access online services and help with Microsoft Word and Excel applications if needed.

What will I be doing?

Working with individuals you will be helping/teaching them to do home searches, benefits applications, applying for jobs or volunteering roles etc.

How long are the volunteer shifts?

The drop-in is open from 12pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday so shifts are during the afternoon and will be around 4 hours long.

Who will I be working with?

You will be working within the drop-in support team.

What skills/experience do I need?

Good computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, is essential with an ability to teach/share this knowledge. Being patient, compassionate and non-judgemental with a positive outlook are key qualities for this volunteer role. It is also expected that you will have an ability to adhere to our strict confidentiality/privacy policy and be able to work within professional boundaries. Experience of working with vulnerable adults would be advantageous.
